Left 4 Dead is a zombie survival game which entails up to 4 player co-operative play or 8 player versus play. Players must fight there way through all 4 levels of the 3 campaigns. There are also custom campaigns that will be added soon.

#1.1 How to Play

Here's how you can play multiplayer online.

Install Left 4 Dead on your computer
Patch it up to the latest versions. There are 2 types of patches:

The Game Patch: Updates the main Left 4 Dead Game
The Standalone Patch: Updates the non-steam aspect of Left 4 Dead (Makes it separate from steam)

You will need to update both patches in order to play properly.

Installing the patches:

Run the installer and follow the prompts. Make sure the directory that you install to is the main Left 4 Dead folder

#1.4 Connecting to a Server:

Remember to disable your firewalls or allow Left 4 Dead to run through them!

There are two ways:

You can connect to the LAN server by typing the command "connect" (without the ") into console, followed by the servers IP.

eg. connect 127.0.0.1

or

After the LAN server is hosted, you might see a little pop up in the lower left corner hinting at the server. Just click it and then select "Join Game".

How to Install custom maps

Install the Left 4 Dead map or campaign
Installation paths may differ based on your system configuration.
- Place the .bsp and .nav file in your Left 4 Dead maps folder.
  Do not place the .zip file in your /maps/ folder or it will not work.
  
  ...\left 4 dead\left4dead\maps\
Play the custom map or campaign.
Open the console by typing ~ and type "map map_name".

Troubleshooting

Enabling the console: To enable the console go to Options>Keyboard/Mouse settings and check Enable Developers Console

Changing your name: Go to your L4D folder and open rev.ini. Change your player name by replacing

PlayerName = defaultname

with

PlayerName = Your name here

Also make sure you ask the admin for an alias (because you need the first few digits of your ip to be the same as the hoster's)

Additional notes:
-recommended that everyone bring separate water if they wish
-ok, for the clean up, i suggest: 1 bucket, a roll of absorbent paper aand perhaps some sort of emulsification solution.....either that or we could just attempt to soak up excess oil with padding and just wrap the bbq plate in a plastic bag.
-on the topic of oil, i suggest one of those oil spray cans, they work particularly well.

Hello, I see you are interested in my mods (seeing as you came here), currently, I only have a couple of thoroughly modded map (available below). If you want to try out one of my other wip maps, msn me and i may give it to you...

Details
All my modified maps must be played in the normal Halo, not custom edition (much easier for u guys as well, plus CE is not working on my Vista.......). You will need to replace your current map with my modded map (in the 'MAPS' folder inside the Halo folder) so I advise you to get 2 different copies of Halo (copy & paste the Halo folder and name it as you see fit) or backup your exisitng maps as my modified maps will only work on my modified servers and wont work on normal servers. Also when you do play one of my modded maps, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRESPONDING VERSION (check here fot the latest version). Glitches may be reported to me, keeping in mind that vehicles pushing you out of the map is not a glitch of mine but one of Microsoft's, so blame them...

To install just download (find attached at the bottom of the page in "attachmenats"-under the comments section) and run it. It will ask you where to exract to, the default should be one of the below, if not change it so that it is:

For XP: C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER_NAME\My Documents\My Games\Halo\savegames
For Vista: C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\Documents\My Games\Halo\savegames\
For Macs: GET A PROPER COMPUTER

Click extract and put in the password: passivearea

To select the gametype in halo select the custom catagory when it asks you to choose a gametype.

*Note* FFA stands for "free for all"

Firstly, if you have a firewall, you will need to let halo through.

Once you are able to get your server listed in the lobby (ask a friend to check) that means that halo is going trough correctly to to the interweb. However, if when somebody tries to join your server and it keeps showing the message "retrying server xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx " and does not connect, the host computer needs to configure port forwarding, to do that find the link labeled with the name of your router below (I recommend ctrl+f):

World in Conflict is a RTS developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft (formerly Sierra Entertainment). Instead of base building it offers reinforcement points to buy units and tactical aid points for calling in artillery support, air drops and other things.

To play you need:

World in Conflict
Soviet Assault expansion
Hamachi (See Passive Area gaming main page)

All you need to do is to join the Hamachi network (indicated on main page) and join the lan server.

*IMPORTANT* If you see the word "modified" or any variant in the server name (eg. mod), I (tigerhacker) am testing a modded map. DO NOT join unless if you hav a copy of my modded map because YOU WILL LAG DUE TO THE MODDED PHYSICS (and many other stuff) RUNNING ON MY SERVER which you dont hav since your client is not modded. Contact me to obtain the mod, alternatively see the halo mods page.

Halo games should be hosted at around 5pm and again at 9pm, additional games may be hosted, if you are hosting, please announce it by leaving a quick note in your MSN name of in your personal message.

Halo games should be hosted under the server name "Passivearea" and if you want to apply a password, it should be "sths". A list of currently active Passivearea game servers can be found here.

Also, if possible please have your internet (external) IP address handy in case if your server doesn't show up in the halo multiplayer lobby so that people can use the direct IP feature. Alternatively if you have a static IP or a DNS, you can leave it in the table on your left.

To host, please make sure that your interweb connection is of a decent speed (for each player on your server, you will need 8 k-bit/sec of download speed and16k-bit/sec of upload) so that the server does not lag (cos lag is no fun as most of you know). Check your speed here.

These are estimates however and depending on your specific connection, you may still experiance lag even if you have my reccomended amount of people, if it does lagg badly please dont play a sniper game and try playing in a smaller map.

Setting Up Hamachi:

1. Install Hamachi (Download it Here) and restart the computer if needed
2. Open up Hamachi and follow the tutorial (if none is provided then click on the 'Power' button (far bottom left corner)
3. Go to 'Create or Join Networks' (highlighted in blue)
4. Enter these details (as shown):
Network Name: ZombiePide
Password: 123
and click join.
5. Next check if you can 'ping' the other members on the network (who are online) by right clicking on them. Note the latency. Optimum latency should be 100<
6. If it is timed out then you or the host have a firewall blocking Hamachi or a Network error. Configure your firewall to allow Hamachi if this is the case.

Got any other good multiplayer games that you think we should play, just make sure everybody has the game and start a schedule for it.

These are the two lists that were submitted, so I guess they are pretty much finalised. We are in Cabins 6A and 6B.

Camera	I will probably bing mine (Tigerhacker) I probably won't bring mine then... I don't have a proper case for it either :( Johnny: I got my phone	only 1 and has to be good 10mp, 5x zoom up to 1.5 hr vid or ~750 of pics 3mp 3x zoom, bluetooth, secondary camera, ability to make calls in times of distress (000, 911 etc...), gaming compatability with java and sybmian. 8 hours talking time ~205 pics still left. Oh and can play anime and movies xD.
Playing cards	Antoine (if I can find them :P) Johnny	I'll bring my poker set plus i'll buy some cards from hot dollar or somwhere over the weekend.
Padlocks		for what? Door? luggage? For electronic devices since u guys are bringing DS, PSP, MP3, Camera, etc. For good measure i recommend at least having 2 keys incase if we lose 1, we still hav access, We will also need a lockable container unless u want 2 elect someones luggage to lock.....
Music	Whoever wants to can, no real need 2 post...	NO HEAVY / EMO / DEATH METAL MUSIC!!!!!!!!! I second that :P I third that. Wait, I said that in the first place :P Benny Hill. The whole day. Got my phone send any songs you want to me (my phone is pretty loud)
Speakers	Johnny Tigerhacker	Has some old speakers but they still work I hav a cheap set that runs on 4xAAA bats

Bug Repellant	Yoshi (probably)	Is this really necessary? Yes it is necessary, no you're not using it :P I AM a bug repellent :P (I wish)

Yoshi: We need some form of defense. Probably water balloons. People like Kevin Hodgson and Craig Strong exist. They're likely to invade and do shit to the cabin I'm in.

If you guys need anything I (johnny) can get them since i work in a shopping centre. Just text me a list or msn me. I can got Sat/Sun. Then you can pay me later. And i'll also bring some first aid stuff (bandaids antiseptic etc).
